So we'd have a drawing for the weldment which has the machining, weldment and all the templates for flat stuff, sheet metal etc. When we most often end up with -01 type of stuff is on weldments where parts need to be pre-processed. We use multiple sheets in a single drawing so we might have 10 sheets to a single part but only one drawing. 90% of our drawings are one part, one drawing. Here we bastardize largely because we don't have -01 drawings very often. I would think that if you were to regularly need multiple drawings I would just start with -01 on everything and then you have the same format on everything. At some point in time we want to start testing Tech Pubs (SE's version of Composer, but more sophisticated) and Electrical but that will be at least a year away.Īnother (perhaps semantic) question: in the case that ASM0001 has only one drawing and assuming you are matching numbers, would you designate that drawing as DWG0001-1 (looking ahead), or as just DWG0001 (if another drawing is added in the future it will need to be changed)? Not a major issue, but I want to get it "right" the first time since I'm not a moral relativist. In the rare case that we have a vendor asking for 3D data, we would supply native files. This results in a harmonious overall work.Usually drawings and DXFs (for laser). Ideally, you adapt the look to the content. Whether strong and three-dimensional, slim and embellished or charmingly decorated – there are no limits to your imagination. The individual styles can usually be transferred to numbers in a wonderful way. Here too, it is worth taking a look at different hand lettering styles and alphabets. Different stylesīeside simple numbers with the same line width and the variant with brush pens, there are endless possibilities to draw hand lettering numbers. For you as an artist they also offer an exciting visual effect.Īccording to the artistic freedom you have, you can use these digits as required – and thus change the character of your lettering. Just like letters, old style numerals have fixed ascenders and descenders!Īs a result, these digits fit better into continuous text. Only when you look at the numbers in the baseline system they reveal their effect. Old-style figuresĪt first glance, the so-called old style figures (also known as minuscule figures) do not differ from the usual figures (majuscule figures). So you get a feeling for the lines and shapes. In my brush lettering workbook I have dedicated a special page to numbers.

Hand lettering numbers follow the same rules as letters.

Only with the “9” I have chosen a different line management, which will help you in brush lettering. The individual movements are precisely coordinated with each other to create the best possible flow of writing. The approach is very similar to the way I learned it in school.

In the following photo I have marked these lines with a simple font: This is how the individual digits are created and can be put together to form numbers. To write the numbers from zero to nine (the normal way), there is a typical sequence of strokes.
